We work together as a team

It’s easy to talk about bringing people together to drive real-world change, but how does it work in practice? Meet our people and discover how the Centre is organised and managed behind the scenes.

We’re proud to have a friendly, diverse and dedicated team working at the Centre. Read their biographies to learn more about their skills, experience, interests and areas of expertise.

The Centre is led by Professor Kev Dhaliwal with the support of three co-directors: Professor Pleasantine Mill, Professor Simon Johnson and Professor Stefan Marciniak. Together, they are responsible for setting the Centre’s strategic direction and priorities, providing scientific leadership, and managing relationships with key external partners.

Our Leadership Team is collectively responsible for planning, decision-making, delivery, risk management, reporting and strategic alignment across diseases. It brings together the Centre’s directors, the technical experts who lead our five work packages, the Chair of the LEAP, and members of the Operations Team.

Our Independent Advisory Board provides expert strategic guidance, review and oversight of the Centre’s research, science and operations. Our Lived Experience Advisory Panel (LEAP) works with the Leadership Team to help ensure the Centre’s work is relevant to patients’ needs and reflects their priorities. An IP Management Group provides advice on issues relating to intellectual property.

Our Work Package Leads are responsible for delivery. They monitor and report on the progress of their work package, manage milestones, pursue strategic priorities and manage scientific resources.

The Centre’s Operations Team is hosted within the Pandemic Science Hub at the University of Edinburgh. The Centre Manager, Eliane Reid, is supported by an administrator and specialists in legal, finance, communications and patient-public involvement and engagement.

Our funder is LifeArc, a not-for-profit life science organisation.

“Our hope is that the LifeArc RRD Centre becomes a catalyst for real change, accelerating research, driving innovation, and ultimately delivering tangible improvements for people living with rare respiratory diseases like Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia.
