What a week of community, conversation and collaboration! Over two days and three events, we brought researchers, advisors, partners and clinical colleagues together in London to celebrate successes, share ideas and look to the future. As always, we had our eyes on one goal: to improve the discovery, development and delivery of resources and therapies for people with rare respiratory diseases.

Capacity building is a key priority for the Centre: it’s really important that our ECRs receive the support they need to develop into tomorrow’s scientific leaders in rare respiratory disease. On 25th March, twenty-two members of our Early Career Researcher (ECR) community met at the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) to discuss their plans for our Emerging Leaders network. This network, backed by dedicated development funds, will enable them to build skills, explore ideas and invest in their scientific careers. The room was buzzing with open, thoughtful exchanges about the potential to enhance collaboration, patient involvement and knowledge-sharing across the Centre. We look forward to seeing this network flourish over the coming months.

Our Independent Advisory Board (IAB) is another valuable source of ideas, expertise and constructive criticism. IAB members joined the Centre’s leadership team at the RCP and online on 25th March to discuss our ongoing work to develop biobank and registry resources for rare respiratory diseases and share their advice on broader questions about the Centre’s ambitions for the future. Their external perspective is helping us to position the Centre to deliver tangible, sustainable benefits for patients over the long term.

The week culminated with Roadmap for Rare: accelerating translation across the rare disease ecosystem. This full-day event at Kings Place on 26th March brought together a hundred rare disease advocates to explore how we can turn scientific momentum into clinical reality. A packed agenda highlighted the need to find patients faster, accelerate discovery and development, improve trial readiness and design, and sustain moment to achieve long-term impact. The positive energy and engagement in the conference room spilled over into lively discussions during breaks and over lunch. We’ll be sharing detailed reflections on the sessions, the discussions and the perspectives over the coming weeks.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in person, online or in spirit for this busy week of events. We look forward to continuing the conversation and continuing to build the future of rare respiratory disease together. We couldn’t do it without you.
