We’d like to spotlight on PCD Awareness Month – October 2025
This October, some of the Centre’s researchers will join partners across Europe in raising awareness of Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD), a rare and often under-diagnosed condition. The month is about:
-
- A co-ordinated campaign with BEAT-PCD and UK patient groups to shine a light on PCD diagnosis, research progress, and patient stories.
- Our researchers and clinicians will share insights on genetics, diagnosis, and new therapies through their blogs, webinars, and social media.
- The campaign will culminate in the Annual PCD Patient Conference on 29 November 2025, a chance for families, researchers, and clinicians to connect, share experiences, and hear the latest updates.

- Highlights from the Centre community
- Researchers from our Centre have recently delivered keynote talks at international conferences in the US, Italy, and the UK.
- Our team is working with global partners like Decipher and the Open Source Imaging Consortium (OSIC) to improve access to genetic and imaging databases for rare respiratory disease research.

The session will showcase the Centre’s mission and cutting-edge science, featuring talks on:
- Rare disease phenotyping and genotyping in adults and children
- Translational disease modelling
- Applying gene therapy to rare lung diseases
- Studying drug action in the human lung
- The central role of patient voices in shaping research
This is a key opportunity to share our progress with the wider respiratory community, strengthen clinical networks, and highlight the importance of rare diseases in advancing therapies for all lung conditions.
