Jane Lucas
Researcher, Clinician & Centre Leadership team

Jane Lucas is Professor of Paediatric Respiratory Medicine at the University of Southampton, UK. Jane leads the nationally funded primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) centre in Southampton, providing a comprehensive NHS diagnostic and management service for patients living in the South of England. Over the past 20 years, her respiratory research has focused on understanding the causes of PCD, and improving the diagnosis and management of patients with this disease. She founded the international network BEAT-PCD (COST Action), and chaired the collaboration for 5 years. She continues to lead a BEAT-PCD work package that focuses on clinical and preclinical outcome measures. Other international roles include Chair of the European Respiratory Society (ERS) PCD Task Force that developed evidence-based guidelines for the diagnosis of PCD and Work Group Lead in BESTCILIA (FP7) developing health-related quality of life questionnaires for PCD. She recently chaired an ERS taskforce that delivered a technical standard for measuring nasal nitric oxide in children.
