Stephen Hart is a Professor of Molecular Genetics at the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, where he leads a research group focused on developing innovative, non-viral gene therapies for respiratory diseases, including cystic fibrosis and primary ciliary dyskinesia, as well as conditions like neuroblastoma.
With a background in microbial genetics and a passion for translational science, Stephen is particularly interested in using cutting-edge techniques—such as CRISPR gene editing and therapeutic nanoparticles—to develop real-world treatments that can improve patients’ lives. He has spent much of his career designing novel delivery systems for DNA, siRNA, and mRNA therapies and has led multiple international collaborative projects and spinout ventures based on his patented technologies.
Stephen enjoys the collaborative nature of rare disease research and is known for working closely with scientists, clinicians, and industry partners across a wide range of disciplines. His work sits at the intersection of molecular science and patient impact—an area that continues to drive his curiosity and long-term commitment to improving healthcare through research.
