Elian Reid
Centre Leadership and Management

Eliane is a specialist in leading and managing operations of multi-partner complex research and innovation projects, hubs and programmes and for the past 10 years worked within different departments at the University of Edinburgh. I’ve had the privilege of co-leading large £multi-million collaborative research and innovation initiatives aiming to tackle our most intractable challenges; and worked with many of the UK’s Universities and partners in Asia, Latin America, Europe and Africa. My passion and focus has always been on ensuring that “management” strives to enable research and creates a smooth runway and landing space for all involved.

Prior to joining higher education I worked for 10 years in the not-for-profit sector as Assistant Chief Executive of a leading charity – working alongside the NHS, charities, central and local government to improve wellbeing and health outcomes. In my earlier career I headed-up Projects and Partnerships Teams within a large government department aiming to improve sustainability, biodiversity and health outcomes.  I started my career as a bacteriologist with the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and moved out of the lab to travel and live in Zimbabwe.

In my spare time I am a special technical adviser (on Programme/Project Management, Evaluation and Operational Management) to the UK Government Foreign and Commonwealth Office on their support for tackling the climate, health, economic crisis and also to the Scottish Government Fair Trade Scotland Panel. To relax, I write poetry and dabble on the occasional long-distant cycle adventure!
