Prof. Andreas Günther is a physician and researcher in medicine, with special expertise in pulmonology, interstitial lung disease, intensive care, and sleep medicine. A professor of internal medicine at the Justus-Liebig-University Giessen (JLU) and directs the Centre for Interstitial and Rare Lung Diseases at the University Hospital Giessen. He has held leadership roles as Medical Director of the AGAPLESION Lung Clinic Waldhof-Elgershausen, and previously as Chefarzt of pulmonary and intensive care medicine.His research focuses heavily on fibrosing lung diseases, lung repair & remodelling, translational research in lung fibrosis, and related clinical trials. He is also coordinating efforts in European and German networks on interstitial lung disease, registries, and biobanking, including the European ILD Registry (eurIPFreg) and initiatives in rare lung disease research.

In his academic career, he earned his medical degree at JLU Giessen, has accumulated over 300 peer-reviewed scientific publications, and has held various professional appointments.
